Coffee Tip of the Day

To elevate your home-brewed coffee to the next level, consider the water you're using.

It's easy to overlook, but the water quality can drastically change the taste of your coffee. After all, a cup of joe is about 98% water. If you find your coffee is not tasting up to par, it might be time to check what's coming out of your tap.

Water with a high chlorine content or that is very hard can impart off-flavors and affect extraction. A simple tip is to use filtered or bottled water with a balanced mineral content—this can enhance the clarity and flavor profile of your brew. This works for both espresso and pour-over methods.

If you're very serious about your cup, consider testing your water's pH level and mineral content and compare it to the Specialty Coffee Association's water quality standards for that perfect brew. Happy experimenting!
